Medics

A mobile application for users of the Medics system that allows them to schedule appointments with doctors, communicate with them, and view the results of appointments in their medical records.

The Medics App was a transformative healthcare project that digitized medical services across Ukraine, serving over 100,000+ users. As Design Consultant for Medics IT, I led the complete UX/UI design for both iOS and Android platforms, creating a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem that connected patients with medical providers seamlessly.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conducted extensive user research across Ukraine's diverse healthcare landscape
  • Developed detailed user journey maps covering the complete healthcare experience
  • Created comprehensive information architecture for complex medical workflows
  • Designed intuitive interfaces balancing patient needs with provider requirements

Working on healthcare UX taught me that great design isn't just about beautiful interfaces—it's about creating systems that genuinely improve people's lives and well-being.

User Research & Personas

I identified key user personas through extensive research, understanding the diverse needs of Ukraine's healthcare system:

  • Busy professionals seeking convenient appointment scheduling
  • Elderly patients requiring simple, accessible interfaces
  • Parents managing healthcare for family members
  • Healthcare providers needing efficient workflow management

The research revealed critical insights about accessibility requirements and the importance of inclusive design in healthcare technology, influencing every design decision throughout the project.

Information Architecture & User Flows

The comprehensive information architecture I designed addressed multiple user scenarios: individual patients seeking care, parents managing family healthcare, and elderly users requiring simplified interactions. Each user flow was carefully crafted to minimize cognitive load while maintaining access to essential medical information.

Appointment Scheduling System

The scheduling system became the app's cornerstone feature, designed to handle Ukraine's complex healthcare landscape:

  • Doctor Search: Intuitive search with specialty, location, and availability filters
  • Real-time Booking: Instant confirmation with calendar integration
  • "Hot Minutes" Feature: Subscription system for last-minute appointment openings
  • Family Management: Multi-user booking capabilities for healthcare coordination
  • Emergency Handling: Streamlined flows for urgent care scenarios

The biggest challenge was designing for such diverse user groups—from tech-savvy professionals to elderly patients—which reinforced the critical importance of inclusive design principles in healthcare.

Digital Health Records

I designed comprehensive digital health management that transformed how Ukrainians accessed their medical information:

  • Patient Cards: Complete medical history with intuitive navigation
  • Document Management: Upload capabilities with secure storage
  • E-health Integration: Seamless connection with Ukraine's national health system
  • Family Privacy Controls: Sophisticated permission management for dependents
  • Prescription Tracking: Medication history and refill reminders

The system maintained medical privacy while enabling efficient healthcare delivery across different age groups and technical abilities.

Communication Hub

The communication system facilitated secure healthcare interactions while maintaining simplicity:

  • Provider Messaging: Secure chat with healthcare professionals
  • Smart Notifications: Appointment reminders and treatment alerts
  • Emergency Contacts: Quick access to urgent care services
  • Multi-language Support: Accessibility for Ukraine's diverse population
  • Treatment Adherence: Medication reminders and follow-up care

Project Impact

The Medics App's success stemmed from its user-centered approach to complex healthcare challenges. With over 100,000 downloads and sustained engagement over multiple years, the project demonstrated how thoughtful UX design can drive meaningful social change in critical service sectors.
